The rule of thirds is helps your composition better your the picture. Instead of always having the main part of you picture in the middle the rule of thirds helps you. You can put main part in other sections and still make it look good if not better. Like in my picture my emphasis (Main Point) is the sun. As you can see it's not in the middle but to more to the upper left, which makes it look a lot better.

This picture you took here is a bit amazing, since you got the sun as your emphasis it make the tree seem divine.
